PEO­PLE Against Wylfa B(PAWB) has been lead­ing the op­po­si­tion to a new nu­clear plant on An­gle­sey. Their con­cerns are over the risk of a po­ten­tial Fukushima or Ch­er­nobyl style dis­as­ter on the is­land.

There is then the is­sue of deal­ing with nu­clear waste and there is op­po­si­tion about the pro­jected cost of gen­er­at­ing nu­clear power.

In ad­di­tion, PAWB and Welsh lan­guage group Cymdei­thas yr Iaith has fears over the im­pact on the Welsh lan­guage and cul­ture due to the in­flux of work­ers and pres­sure on hous­ing. pates re­ceiv­ing its ap­proval and ac­cep­tance by the end of this year.

The Nu­clear Site Li­cence ap­pli­ca­tion was sub­mit­ted in May and, sub­ject to its ap­proval by the Reg­u­la­tor (ONR), is ex­pected to be granted dur­ing 2018.
