City lose despite heroics
BANGOR City men’s team lost 3-0 at home to Denbigh last Saturday.
Both sides had chances in the opening 10 minutes, with Harri Evans and Tom Hughes forcing saves from the Denbigh keeper, but the visitors scored with a low shot after 12.
The goal settled the away side and they doubled their lead from a short corner on the rebound after a goal-line block from Keith Proudlove.
City continued to fashion chances, with Dave Paterson and Harry Collins Jones going close. But Denbigh proved a potent threat on the counter and two good saves from Bangor keeper Tudur Trenholme kept the home side in it before half time.
Bangor dominated second-half possession but failed to convert from a string of opportunities.
Tats Greenhalgh came closest to pulling one back for the Blues, but saw his low strike hit the base of the post.
And the visitors sealed a hard-earned three points five minutes from time with a smart finish from their young striker, to compound a frustrating afternoon for the Citizens.
Defeat sees Bangor remain 10th in NWHL Division 5 South. They head to Ysgol John Bright this Saturday to take on Llandudno 1sts (3.30pm).
