Katherine Jenkins to host choir contest:
OPERA star Katherine Jenkins will present the BBC’s Young Choir of The Year competition in Bangor next month when Songs of Praise is recorded in the city.
Three parts to the popular Sunday afternoon show will be filmed at two separate locations in Bangor as part of an Easter special to be aired on Sunday, April 1.
The first part will be the final of the first ever edition of the choir competition, for choirs whose members are aged 18 or under.
Presented by Jenkins and former JLS singer JB Gill, it will take place at Theatr Bryn Terfel in the Pontio Arts Centre in Bangor on Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4, from 2.30pm until 6.30pm.
Pontio will also stage a celebration of modern worship on Sunday, March 4.
The recording of hymns that will be used as part of the Easter Sunday programme will take place at Bangor Cathedral on Monday, March 5 from 6.30pm.
The North Wales series will also include Series Executive Producer/Director, Emyr Afan says: “These recordings are a wonderful opportunity for local singers to come together for evenings of musicmaking for broadcast on BBC One.
“Songs of Praise has been championing Christian music for over 55 years and continues to be enormously popular due to recordings like these.”
