Swan savaged in horrific attack by dogs ‘running wild’

-

A SWAN had its head ripped off in a savage attack by two dogs.

Onlookers claimed the dogs were “running wild” at Porth Penrhyn, Bangor, while owners “did nothing” at around 6.30pm on Sunday.

The dogs – one a sandy brown colour with a thick woolly coat, the other dark brown with a white tail – attacked two swans, with one of them getting away injured.

The other was “ripped apart” and decapitated.

A reader sent shocking images to our sister paper the Daily Post (pictured) showing the savagery of the attack. The RSPCA is now investigating.

The reader said: “The people with the dogs had children with them and didn’t even seem concerned. It’s shocking.”

An RSPCA spokeswoman said: “RSPCA Cymru is very shocked and saddened to hear a swan has died following a suspected dog attack. If anyone has any information, please call our advice and cruelty helpline on 0300 1234 999 in confidence.

“Swans, their nests and eggs are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.”
