Zip World city centre wire gets go-ahead

ZIP World has secured planning permission for a zip wire in the centre of Liverpool.

The North Wales adventure giant plans to ‘fly’ thrill seekers from the top of the 140m high St John’s Beacon to Liverpool Central Library – the company’s first zip line outside Wales, and the fastest urban zip in the world.

The scheme had been widely welcomed although some councillors claimed it would lead to the “Disneyfication” of the city centre.

Zip World founder Sean Taylor gave assurances over respecting memorials and “heritage assets” in that area. They hope to have the attraction open by next summer.
