Strong end from Minerva

Bath Chronicle - - SPORT -

Minerva Bath Rowing Club took four wins at the last regatta of the 2018 season last weekend. The women’s masters E 4+ provided the excitement with a straight final against a younger crew who had an eight-second head start over the 750m course. The race ended in a dead heat with both crews having to return to the start line immediately and replay the race. The Minerva women held their nerve and powered through to regain the eight seconds and take the win by half a length, gaining revenge for a defeat earlier in the season. Meanwhile, there were wins too for the mixed double, the mixed quad and the women’s E quad. The junior squad also had a pres- ence at the regatta and while there were no wins, they braved some first ever racing in singles and quads with club president and Olympian Arnold Cooke’s granddaughter, Erica, steering her first race in a quad. Rowing captain Sunita Berry said: “A great end to a great summer; we’ve had crews at all the good regional races as well as the national and highly prestigious ones like Nottingham and Henley. “I couldn’t be more proud of team Minerva’s efforts, particularly many of our newer juniors and also masters who have returned to rowing after a considerable break. “A great final race day for the regatta season saw us pick up four more crew wins, so we’re very happy with that.”
