Power pair behind Juice Recruitment

Bath Chronicle - - BUSINESS -

The Bath Business Awards, our annual celebration of the city’s ongoing commercial successes, are fast approaching. In advance of the event on November 27, Elise Britten meets Emma and Andrew Summers, the pair behind one of these outstanding ventures, Juice Recruitment. Emma Summers darted straight off the street into our meeting and immediately filled the room with her huge presence. I thought I would just be speaking with Emma, but was pleasantly surprised to be joined by her husband Andrew. Together they are certainly an entertaining duo – playing off each other and finishing each other’s sentences. Whenever they speak at events around the city they unwittingly have their audiences in stitches. “That’s the problem with being a husband and wife team, we’re like a double act,” Andrew laughed. But aside from amateur dramatics, the pair make even better business partners. Twenty years after they launched their company in a small office in Bath, they now have a hugely successful business from five branches across the South West and have no intention of slowing down. Yet Bath still sits at the heart of their business. “Bath is always our home,” Andrew affirmed. “It all evolved from being in Bath.” So what better way is there to mark Juice Recruitment’s 20th anniversary than sponsoring our Bath Business Awards. (Ok, perhaps the glamorous parties they’ve been holding at each of their centres isn’t a bad way either!) It is particularly fitting for Juice to sponsor our Outstanding Contribution to Bath category. Emma explained: “We’ve been in Bath 20 years and we have a lot to thank the city for. “Bath is a wonderful place to set up a business as it has an element of security with great support networks – everyone knows everyone. It’s a very sociable city. And being able to celebrate that once a year is even better. “It’s a big year for us celebrating our 20th anniversary, and being part of recognising others’ longterm contributions to Bath goes hand-in-hand with that.” Whenever we see people powering ahead, we always want to know the key to their success. Emma and Andrew see it as a simple equation. “Good old fashioned values are key – honesty, integrity, passion and enthusiasm – coupled with excellent customer service and having those open conversations,” Emma said. “We are the eyes and ears of the company and know straight away when we meet a candidate exactly where they would be perfect for.” Andrew added: “You can’t go too wrong if you’re wanting to please all the time!” Indeed they must be doing something right – some of their clients have hired every single one of their employees through Juice. A vast collection are ready to sing their praises. “Everyone I have dealt with at Juice has a proactive approach to resolving our recruitment needs and save us valuable time in presenting well-matched candidates. Juice have been a partner to us to support the growth and changes in our business,” one HR director said. But just as important to the Juice team is the candidate experience. And they appear to be getting that just right too. “Working with Juice Recruitment has been brilliant. From the outset they were absolutely on it, after looking for a new role on and off for the last 12 months, within two weeks of registering with them I had an interview and two other potential roles to look at. And then in less than a month after I registered I was offered a new job!” one candidate enthused. Another said: “Being made redundant in my previous role was quite a daunting prospect however getting in touch with Alison was great, she found me a new role in Bath within weeks which matches up perfectly with the line of work that I was looking for. The position wasn’t even advertised.” Despite the Emma and Andrew being a powerhouse team in themselves – they know they can’t do it alone. “The team at Juice are amazing and so important to us,” Emma said. “We have a really strong culture where the team is made up of vibrant, happy people with a huge amount of energy.” Andrew continued: “We’ve always valued our team. We want people to enjoy coming to work. “There’s nothing better than seeing people buy houses and have children and being part of it all.” Juice Recruitment is still flying full steam ahead, constantly coming up with new ideas and innovations in a bid to be a leader in their field. Their calendar for next year is already packed with events such as hosting a recruitment question and answer panel, pop-up offices and free workshops for job seekers. “We’re really proud of what we’ve achieved, but there’s still so much we want to do,” Emma said. Here at the Bath Chronicle, we’ve always been proud to champion Bath born-and-bred businesses and Juice Recruitment is no exception. “The Chronicle has always been behind us,” Andrew said. “And they still are,” Emma added.
