DAVID ANGEL

Born 1955 Violinist

-

It was with two ensembles in particular that David Angel became known on concert stages in Britain and beyond: the London Mozart Players, of whom he was co-leader of the second violins; and the Maggini Quartet, the group he co-founded in 1988 and of whom he was the second violinist. A former pupil of Yehudi Menuhin and Nadia Boulanger, Angel played regularly with the capital’s other leading ensembles, such as the Orchestra of St John’s and the London Chamber Orchestra, and performed as a recitalist alongside pianist David Elwin. Professor of quartet playing at the Birmingham Conservatoire, he was a much admired teacher and it was while coaching at a course in Oxford that he passed away. ‘David died doing what he loved and excelled at: playing, sharing and teaching his total passion for music,’ write his fellow Magginis.
