A LIFE IN BRIEF
Early years: Born into a prodigiously musical family in March 1948, Chung made her solo debut with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra at just nine years old.
Trans-continental: When Chung was 13, her mother moved the family to the US in order to give her musical children better opportunities. She and her sister Myung-soh attended the Juilliard School in New York.
Rapid rise: In 1967, Chung and Pinchas Zukerman became the first ever joint winners of the prestigious Leventritt Competition. Three years later, after standing in last-minute for Itzhak Perlman with the London Symphony Orchestra, Chung was signed to Decca Records.
Teaching: Aside from her performing commitments, Chung tutors at the Juilliard.
