Lat­vian com­poser Pe­teris Plakidis (born 1947) en­joyed of­fi­cial suc­cess un­der Soviet rule, be­ing named the Peo­ple’s Artist in 1990. His work has been widely recorded in­clud­ing an all-plakidis CD re­leased by Toc­cata Clas­sics, and was, like fel­low Lat­vian Pe­teris Vasks, in­spired by na­ture and folk mu­sic.

José Bra­gato (born 1915) was best known as a mem­ber of As­tor Pi­az­zolla’s Nuevo Tango en­sem­bles. Also the prin­ci­pal cel­list of a num­ber of or­ches­tras, his own com­po­si­tions in­cluded the pop­u­lar Gra­ciela y Buenos Aires for cello and string orches­tra.
