BBC Proms 2018
In its 71st year of Proms broadcasts, the BBC will be televising concerts throughout the season every Friday and Sunday on BBC Four. Over on BBC Two, Katie Derham returns with Proms Extra, to discuss highlights from the Proms and talk to the artists and composers featured in this year’s festival. As usual, she will be joined by pianist David Owen Norris, bringing us his Chord of the Week.
The main Proms coverage kicks off with the First Night on Friday 13 July. Other Proms featured on BBC TV this July include the 40th anniversary celebrations of BBC Young Musician (15 July), as well as the Proms debut of BBC Music Magazine Award-winner Bertrand Chamayou in Mendelssohn’s First Piano Concerto (22 July).
Friday evenings on the BBC will showcase a wider spread of artists from different genres, including turntablist Shiva Feshareki, who will perform the world premiere of a piece for orchestra and electronics by the composer of the Doctor Who TV theme, Delia Derbyshire (27 July).
