Nicholas Hely-hutchinson Four Elms
At the moment
I am addicted to the ‘Mondschein’ music from Richard Strauss’s opera Capriccio. It is an exquisite piece, reminding us of two things: firstly, that Strauss knew a thing or two about the French horn, being the son of a horn player; and secondly, that he was a master orchestrator. My choice of recording is that by the Royal Opera House orchestra under Antonio Pappano. Close your eyes and wallow in what is a glorious passage of music.
