An un­doubted high­light of our week­end of com­mem­o­ra­tion will be the live per­for­mance of Mark-an­thony Turnage’s paci­fist opera The Sil­ver Tassie in its first re­vival since its 2000 premiere. In­ter­spersed be­tween pro­grammes and con­certs mark­ing the cen­te­nary of the end of WWI will be ‘sonic memo­ri­als’: sounds of bat­tle­fields, pro­vid­ing mo­ments of con­tem­pla­tion. The Royal Opera’s Ring Cy­cle

The Royal Opera House is host­ing the first three op­eras of Wag­ner’s mag­nif­i­cent Der Ring des Ni­belun­gen this month. The cy­cle will be brought to its fiery close in De­cem­ber with Göt­ter­däm­merung. Ra­dio 3 in Con­cert; 3 Nov, 6.30pm; 17, 24 Nov, 5pm

Lon­don Jazz Fes­ti­val

This month we have two ex­cit­ing live record­ings from the an­nual fes­ti­val, in­clud­ing the open­ing gala, show­cas­ing top jazz tal­ent in a cel­e­bra­tion of song.
