Deutsche Grammophon has recently signed baritone Andrè Schuen. The 35 year-old, from Italy’s South Tyrol region, recently appeared in Mozart’s Così fan tutte at the Salzburg Festival and will embark on a series of Schubert recordings for the label. The first, Die schöne Müllerin, is set for release this coming spring.
Also planned for the spring is a homage to the great guitarist Andrés Segovia. The Segovia Legacy is the first album for Divine Art Records by British guitarist Raymond Burley, who recently signed with the label. The programme, to be recorded in January, will feature works written for Segovia by the likes of Roussel, Ponce and Castelnuovotedesco, plus a piece by Segovia himself.
Mello Records has joined forces with the Albanian violinist Alda Dizdari to share her inspiring journey with Elgar’s Violin Concerto. Recorded live in Moscow last year with the Musica Viva Orchestra, the performance is coupled with an audiobook read by Dizdari recounting her experience touring the work in Russia and Eastern Europe. The set is out this month.
Naxos has revealed the first release in its new recording initiative with the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Young pianist Andrey Ivanov’s debut album will feature piano music by Liszt and is the first of six planned recordings by gi ed musicians from the school. Future albums will include piano cycles by Scarlatti and Schubert, and viola works by Holst, Britten and Bowen.
Sony is embarking on a multi-album partnership with the American composer James Newton Howard. The label will release new orchestral works by the Grammy- and Emmy-winning composer, conductor and musician, as well as new arrangements of some of his classic film music and unique takes on classical works.
