Star­bucks first for New­tow­nards as shop­ping cen­tre opens new branch

US cof­fee gi­ant Star­bucks is set to open its first store in New­tow­nards at Ards Shop­ping Cen­tre.

The 2,550 sq ft cof­fee shop, which will seat 80 peo­ple, is to open later in the spring and will be de­signed by Star­bucks’ own agency.

There are al­ready around 20 Star­bucks in North­ern Ire­land.

It’s part of a £7m re­de­vel­op­ment in the cen­tre with a larger 40,000 sq ft unit split into three, with TK Maxx, B&M Bar­gains and now Star­bucks tak­ing up the units.

Ards Shop­ping Cen­tre is owned by Belfast Of­fice Prop­er­ties, whose di­rec­tors in­clude Dublin-based Paddy Mckillen and Padraig Drayne.

A mo­bile phone ac­ces­sory re­tailer Topgift is also open­ing in a 280 sq ft unit, which opens early next month.

Paul Devlin, as­set man­ager of Belfast Of­fice Prop­er­ties, said: “We are de­lighted to have signed Star­bucks and wel­come an­other in­ter­na­tional brand to Ards and fur­ther grow our food and bev­er­age of­fer.

“The sign­ing of Star­bucks sig­nals a strong start to 2017, which fol­lows an ex­cep­tional 2016, and Ards con­tin­ues to de­velop and main­tain its po­si­tion as the re­gion’s strong­est per­form­ing shop­ping des­ti­na­tion.”

Gary Martin, who acted on be­half of cen­tre man­agers Lam­bert Smith Hamp­ton, added: “Star­bucks bring a great rep­u­ta­tion and qual­ity to the line-up.

“We are thrilled to have se­cured them and de­liv­ered the ideal ten­ant on this brief.”
