A NORTHERN Ireland IT firm has landed a new deal with a major hospital in England.

Cloud-computing firm Novosco has signed a contract with the UK’S largest women’s hospital in Liverpool to deliver a project that will enable rapid genome testing of newborn babies.

It’s understood the contract is worth around £500,000.

The Belfast firm’s work will allow the Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust to be able to genetically test newborn babies.

The software and IT network will allow the trust to “detect any genetic conditions or illnesses in babies and to put in place a plan for early treatment”.

Novosco’s managing director Patrick Mcaliskey said: “We are delighted to secure this contract which will enable the trust to take genetic testing to the next level and play an important role in the identification and prevention of conditions and illnesses in new-born babies and the wider population”.

The company — which now employs around 150 staff, spread across its Belfast base, as well as Dublin, Manchester and Cork — will give the health trust a “12-fold increase in the capacity” of the hospital to genetically test newborn babies.

The company says it will “also feed into a major population health programme in Liverpool that aims to analyse genetic information by location, therefore identifying and enabling work to prevent localised health issues”.

Earlier this summer the business landed a £10m deal with housing association Notting Hill Housing, which manages nearly 32,000 properties across London.

As part of the five-year deal, Novosco will provide IT services, including service support and delivery, application management, commodity services, and strategic planning.

The deal makes Notting Hill Housing the third top London housing association in Novosco’s portfolio of clients. Novosco has already worked for organisations including Swan Housing, which manages more than 10,000 homes in the south of England and Northwards Housing based in Manchester.

In Northern Ireland it has worked for Radius, which has some 33,000 homes in the province.

In 2016 Novosco took over English specialist IT security solutions and managed services expert NetDef.

It also recently spent over £1m to double the size of its offices in Belfast, with new premises in the Concourse 3 building of Catalyst, which was formerly known as the Northern Ireland Science Park.
