THE late founder of Co Tyrone firm Waste Systems has been remembered as a man who “always thought big” by one of its main funders.

Nishi Ward (45) was laid to rest yesterday following an accident on his family farm last week.

He was the founder of Waste Systems in Plumbridge, a company with multi-million pound sales and a workforce of around 20 employees.

Kernel Capital, which has an office in Belfast, announced £1m in funding to Waste Systems last year.

The company developed machinery to separate waste materials, and achieved export sales around North America and Europe.

Kernel Capital’s managing partner Niall Olden said: “Nishi, who always thought big, was a man of high energy and a hard worker who was widely respected. He was committed to his family, his company and his community which he demonstrated to all whom he met and in all of what he did.

“On behalf of all partners at Kernel Capital we offer to his wife and family, his many friends and his colleagues, our sincerest sympathies.”

Invest NI chief executive Alastair Hamilton last week praised Mr Ward for his contribution to manufacturing in NI.

“As well as receiving help from Invest NI, he also gave up his time and participated in our marketing campaigns, helping us to promote the importance of exporting and innovation to businesses across NI,” he said.
