A GARAGE doors business in Co Antrim is taking on 17 new staff as it aims to grow sales across Great Britain.

Garage Doors in Ballymena, which already has 50 staff, makes doors to order and is hoping to grow sales by 50% over the next three years due to a buoyant UK construction sector.

Managing director Peter Doherty said: “Our customer base within both the commercial and residential sectors is developing and we aim to continue to build on the valuable links established with distributors in Great Britain to further expand our market share.”

The company has a large showroom in Wakehurst Industrial Estate in Ballymena, and supplies garage doors and external steel access doors to homes and businesses.

Economic development agency Invest NI has offered support of £127,500 towards the recruitment drive.

Bill Montgomery, Invest NI’S director of advanced manufacturing and engineering, added: “This investment is an important strategic commitment for Garage Doors, enabling the business to fulfil its growth potential, particularly in Great Britain. Its growing order book has been driven by innovative products... it is encouraging that the company continues to look for opportunities to widen its portfolio.”
