Isuzu NI team at Todd’s Leap.

THE significant off road capabilities of the new generation Isuzu D-max was tested by Northern Ireland’s press at Todd’s Leap 4x4 adventure centre in Co Tyrone last week. The new model farmers’ favourite pick-up was a runaway success with the many motoring journalists attending, in glorious May sunshine.

“The Todd’s Leap facilities and staff are first class” said Isuzu NI Manager Alastair Kerr “There are ten miles of challenging off road track that really put new D-max through its paces. Our new generation D-max simply excelled all day – the Northern Ireland journalists were particularly impressed with its power delivery, and the new hill descent and hillstart assist functions that are now standard across the Isuzu range.”

“This latest model D-max has an all new powertrain – updated transmissions driven by a new more powerful ‘Euro 6’ turbo diesel engine delivering 46 mpg combined – and avoiding any need for the additional expense, complications and frustrations of Adblue fuel additive. The new six speed auto box was hitched to a fully laden six wheel trailer to let the press try it on a mix of Co Tyrone roads – all came back enthused by the torque, smoothness, and seamless pulling power. The autobox drives effortlessly, and has significant engine braking when throttled off. The auto switches to manual gear function by pulling the transmission shift towards the driver, to hang on to lower gears to maximise engine braking on steep inclines. D-max features “switch on the fly” from 2WD to 4WD on the move, and also has a 4WD Low ratio function.”

“The new hill descent control is fantastic towing off road on steep inclines, a real added safety feature. Regular trailer users know how tricky a laden unit can become on off road slopes. Engage hill descent at the push of a switch and the system takes the strain, applying power and brakes to each corner to find optimum descent control. Trailer drivers love it. Hillstart is useful too – no more ‘pogoing’ off the mark with a load on.”

“The 125,000 mile/5 year bump- er to bumper warranty and backup of our 5 year Euro Assist made a great impression. It sends out all the right messages about our product build quality and design, particularly as many much more expensive rivals don’t offer anything like the back-up Isuzu delivers within the ‘on the road’ price. With ‘Europe’ starting just minutes from many Northern Ireland customers’ doors it’s huge peace of mind – if you run out of fuel or need help changing the full size spare wheel supplied as standard you’re never alone in the new D-max anywhere on this island”.

“Don’t take our word for how good new generation D-max is – come along to any of our six Northern Ireland specialist dealers and take a complimentary 48 hour test drive. Then you’ll understand why it’s the class leader. Be sure to say the Belfast Telegraph sent you, you’ll be made most welcome.”
