Make-up Masterclass Eyebrows Gentle touch

Belfast Telegraph - Weekend - - BEAUTY & FITNESS -

Brows are big news and have long been a staple of all looks from Audrey Hepburn to Cara Delevingne. Getting the right depth, colour and definition though is an art. Brow enhancing products come in many formulations from pencils to gels and pomades. My guide (below right) should address all the questions you were afraid to ask so you can get the eyebrow-raising effect you crave.

Waxing lyrical

A pomade is a waterproof brow colour which sculpts and defines the brows. The ultimate choice for perfectly precise brows, pomade has a smudgefree, creamy formula which glides effortlessly onto the skin and adheres to the brow hairs for optimal definition. This is definitely the product of choice if you want a dramatic, Instagram-style brow. Simply use with an angle brush and as the pomade has a wax like texture, use it to keep your brow in place. The luxury option is Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade, £15, which is also waterproof and acts as a primer too making it perfect for those with oily skin — it stays in place forever. Meanwhile, purse-friendly NYX Professional Makeup Tame & Frame Tinted Brow Pomade, £6, gives extra life to your brows with an easy-to-use product which is available in five shades to coax brows into prime shape. Brow powder is a softer approach for your brows. It’s a much more versatile product and can be used for either a gentler silhouette or a strong outline, depending on how much product you use. Sleek’s Brow Kit, £8.49, is the perfect little compact to ensure you have impressive brows all the time. The shaping wax tames unruly hairs while a setting powder adds colour and shape, defining your brows to their best face-framing effect. This petite wonder (with tweezers, angle and blending brushes) fits easily into a make-up bag or clutch for groomed brows on the go. A great go-to is Makeup Studio Brow Power, £15.50, with a silkening texture which enables you to colour and shape the eyebrow in a subtle, yet defined way. Application is made all the more flexible due to the wet and dry use formulation, so it’s easy to go from eye-catching during the day to night-time glam.

Right lines

Eyebrow pencils are precise tools with which to apply colour to the eyebrows. They are used to fill in and define the brows, containing special ingredients to apply colour where it is needed in a precise and controlled manner. Raise your brow game with the wellpriced Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil, £2.99, which is available in three shades. Expect plenty of pigmented colour with integrated fibres to help fill in those sparse areas as well as plump and define. Or, if you’re able to invest — Chanel’s Crayon Sourcils Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil, £20, offers a beautiful soft powder texture in four subtle shades to enhance the original shape of the eyebrow. This beauty tool can be used to vary the intensity of brows with its ever-elegant line.
