Question:

I’m travelling to Italy with my husband and we are looking at getting a private transfer from Naples airport to our hotel near Sorrento. I was looking to book this online as I’ve been told it’s cheaper than getting a taxi at the airport. A company called Easy Private Taxi offers prices lower than others — making me a little suspicious. But the website does look official and there are reviews. AmandaN

Answer:

As far as I can tell, Easy Private Taxi is a perfectly legitimate company, but as it is located in Estonia it seems an odd choice to organise an airport-to-hotel transfer in Italy.

In your position I would phone the hotel and ask them for a recommendation for a company to use.

If the quote is significantly higher than you’re finding online, invite them to adjust the price in your favour.

Personally, for longer journeys, I find airport transfer buses more comfortable and much cheaper than taxis.

So I suggest you catch the bus direct from Naples airport to Sorrento.

It leaves roughly every hour from 9am to 7.30pm, for a fare €10 per person.

You can hop into a taxi for the last leg to your hotel.

Returning to the airport, I recommend the superb boat trip across the Bay of Naples from Sorrento: an entrancing 90-minute voyage.

You can easily pick up a cab from the port in Naples to the airport, a journey taking as little as 10 minutes.
