Perfect day for new dad Craig with derby joy

- BY GRAHAM LUNEY

CRAIG McClean showed he was the daddy in the north Belfast derby when he celebrated becoming a father for the first time by conquering Cliftonville on Saturday.

Just a few hours after Craig’s girlfriend Rose gave birth to Toby, the Crues left back was in the heat of battle at Seaview helping his side record a crucial 1-0 Danske Bank Premiership win over the Reds.

The 31-year-old spent most of Saturday morning in hospital supporting Rose before he was given the green light to take another baby step towards the title.

Michael Carvill’s second half winner made it an even more perfect day for McClean and he admitted afterwards: “It’s not my usual routine I must say.

“We left the house at just after 3am and Toby McClean was here at 7.30am on Saturday morning so job done! I felt if things developed quickly I could still make the game and Rose agreed with me. She’s a good girl!”
