A multi award-winning journalist, she has been seven times Northern Ireland CIPR news/feature journalist of the year, as well as former Outstanding Irish Woman Journalist of the Year.

Gail Walker, Editor of the Belfast Telegraph, said she was delighted to welcome Ms Breen to head up “our unrivalled political coverage both in print and online”.

She added: “I have long been an admirer of Suzanne’s journalism and I know that she will be an excellent addition to the senior team at the Belfast Telegraph.

“She is one of the most respected journalists in these islands, with a formidable track record of breaking exclusive stories and providing expert analysis.

“Hopefully we will see the restoration of power-sharing at Stormont where Suzanne will no doubt be in her element.”

Ms Breen, who will also contribute to the Belfast Telegraph’s sister title, Sunday Life, is stepping into a role previously held by her good friend, the late Liam Clarke.
