A SECURITY alert in Co Londonderry in which two suspicious objects were found was set to continue into today.

The PSNI said that further forensic examination would be needed to determine exactly what the devices found in Dungiven are.

Superintendent Jeremy Lindsay said: “I am aware how frustrating this incident has been and the inconvenience and disruption it has caused to the local community and I thank them for their patience and understanding.

“I urge the public to remain vigilant.

“If anyone finds anything suspicious, do not touch it, please phone the police immediately.”

Sinn Fein councillor Sean McGlinchey claimed that the objects were pipe bombs.

“Those behind the leaving of two viable pipe bombs on the Derrychrier Road have shown blatant disregard for this community,” he said.

“There is no justification for this, whatsoever.”
