Small firms need help to grow exports

- BY JOHN MULGREW

SMALL firms need additional support in order to help grow and boost exports and sales outside Northern Ireland and the UK, it’s been claimed.

Wilfred Mitchell, NI policy chair at the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), said that the latest trade figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), highlight a need for assistance.

“Our research shows that one in five small businesses currently exports, and with the right support that figure could be doubled,” he said. “As well as current initiatives to support reactive exporters, more needs to be done to help turn small businesses into strategic exporters.”
