Armagh can’t wait for historic Bateman Cup tie, says Parker

CITY of Armagh will mark another significant moment in their history when they play their first ever All-Ireland Bateman Cup semi-final tomorrow against holders Cork Constitution at the Palace Grounds.

The side coached by Willie Faloon earned the right to make the last four after lifting the First Trust Ulster Senior Cup before Christmas, which, as it happened, was the first time it had been done by the club from the Orchard County.

They now, however, face the formidable task of taking on Division 1A side Cork Constitution, who are two divisions above Armagh in the AIL and have taken ownership of the Bateman Cup every year since 2013.

Beating a side who have lifted the Cup for the last five years will take some effort on Armagh’s part, but assistant coach Chris Parker is looking forward to the mighty challenge.

“This is going to be the biggest test that our boys have ever faced, but it’s one they are chomping at the bit to get at,” said Parker.

“Thereisnopressureonusso we’re going out to give it a lash and hold nothing back.”

Meanwhile, in the AIL’s Division 2B, Rainey OB host Sundays Well and Belfast Harlequins meet Wanderers at Deramore Park.
