Malone edging closer to securing the title and automatic promotion

- BY MICHAEL SADLIER

DIVISION 2A leaders Malone could wrap up the league title and promotion this weekend if they beat Cashel at Gibson Park and should Queen’s University defeat Highfield at the Dub.

It would be a just reward for Paddy Armstrong’s squad, with just two rounds to go for them after this weekend, as Malone have been the form side in 2A.

Back in fifth, City of Armagh are still in the hunt to finish fourth and bag a play-off place but are five back from Nenagh Ormond and need a result at bottom-placed side Corinthians, while sixth-placed Queen’s host second-placed Highfield.

In 2B, Rainey Old Boys, in second, host struggling Belfast Harlequins in an Ulster derby which both sides need to win for very differing reasons.

Basement side City of Derry are at Skerries while in sixth spot, Dungannon are on the road at runaway unbeaten leaders Old Crescent.

In 2C, Bangor are in fifth but are two off fourth-placed Omagh. Bangor host Midleton while Omagh are at Bective Rangers. 2A: Galway Corinthians v City of Armagh, Malone v Cashel, Queens University v Highfield 2B: Old Crescent v Dungannon, Rainey OB v Belfast Harlequins, Skerries v City of Derry 2C: Bangor v Midleton, Bective Rangers v Omagh
