Are termination rights wanted to full term?

-

THE main thrust of the arguments of the pro-choice lobby during the run-up to the eighth amendment referendum was that women must have control of their own bodies; their reproductive rights. Nowhere have I heard it argued that this right should cease to be after 12 weeks of pregnancy.

The only logical outworking of this central tenant of the pro-choice lobby’s case is that termination should remain an option for the child’s mother to full term.

Those who advocated the repeal of the eighth on the above grounds now surely need to clarify if they believe that live, fully formed, healthy children, who are about to be born, should be allowed something more the legal rights and protections of a tumour?
