Carol McGiffin: The Way I See It

-

‘Last week, all political hell broke loose when Theresa May announced there would be another general election on 8 June. All this despite a new law, passed in 2011, that was supposed to ensure parliaments were always five-year fixed-terms – so much for that! So, by the time it’s all over, we’ll have had three years of politics.

I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’m in that film Groundhog Day, where Bill Murray keeps getting up in the morning and the same things happen day after day after day.

Now, I’ve got a severe case of election fever. I’ll have to take to my bed, pop lots of pills and pull the covers over my head for the next six weeks to get away from it.

Don’t get me wrong, I am still very politically minded. I care a lot about this country, but I’m tired. I’m sick of constant campaigning. Fed up with disingenuous, self-interested politicians spouting sound bites. Bored of rolling political news coverage, as if nothing else is going on in the world. But most of all, I’m tired of all the delaying tactics when it comes to Brexit.

And although Theresa May claims it’s the very reason she’s forcing us all to vote again, I don’t trust her on it because I’m not sure she really wants it.

But vote we must because if we don’t, we’ll probably have to do it all again next year!’
