Ruth slams Paul Hollywood
Ruth Langsford has been very vocal about the antics of celebrity chef Paul Hollywood…
Ruth Langsford has voiced what a lot of us are probably thinking when it comes to Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood, 52, and his blossoming romance with 22-year-old former barmaid Summer Monteys-Fullam.
The new relationship comes after the celebrity baker announced in November that he was splitting from his wife of 20 years, Alexandra, with whom he has son Josh, 16. Paul is said to have met Summer at the local pub she worked in when he was organising a party for his wife.
During a lively debate on This Morning last week, Ruth gave the Bake Off star a verbal roasting, saying if hubby Eamonn Holmes ‘did a Paul Hollywood’ and traded her in for a younger woman, Eamonn’s daughter Rebecca would ‘disown’ him (and if that’s not a stern warning, Eamonn, we don’t know what is!).
Her outburst came when Eamonn pitched in, adding that at 58, he and Paul were of a similar age – and was about to imagine himself in a similar scenario when Ruth butted in, saying, ‘ Your daughter would disown you if you had a girlfriend younger than her!’
And Eamonn was swift to agree, adding, ‘Nor, indeed, do I have any attraction to a 22-year-old. It doesn’t appeal to me. I like the older woman.’
Later, in the same show, Ruth returned to the topic, confessing she’d be ‘disgusted’ if Eamonn were to follow in the baker’s footsteps. Paul and Summer were first pictured together on a boat during a holiday in Mauritius. An Instagram snap showed Summer posing in a red swimsuit with the words ‘Cake Cake’ on the front – rumoured to be her nickname for Paul. She’s allegedly moved into Paul’s cottage in Kent, and recently gushed in an Instagram post that her new man had turned her ‘from a girl to a woman’.
Should age-gap relationships like this one be given the same chance as any other? Or, as Ruth clearly believes, is it ‘disgusting’ for a 22-year-old to be with someone who’s old enough to be her dad?
It’s divided fans online, with one writing, ‘I still cannot see a young woman dating a married old bloater.’ Another posed the question, ‘I wonder if he would disown his daughter though if she dated an older man???’
At least Paul is consistent – his roller-coaster love-life has regularly proved as colourful as his culinary creations…
