Bonkers as it to believe, you can get to amazing North Africa in less time than it takes to travel from Croydon to Oldham by train. That fact alone should be enough to entice you over to Morocco for a long weekend, but when you also factor in the guaranteed great weather, superb roads and sheer exoticism of the place, it really does start to become a bit of a no-brainer. In September, average temperatures are around 27°C/81°F, and by Christmas are still hovering around 14°C/57°F, similar to what it’s like in May in the UK. Not that riding in Morocco is anything like pedalling in blighty. There’s some really excellent cycling to be had south of Marrakesh, for example, where you can expect verdant pastures to blend into sun-baked moonscapes, all overlooked by the snow dusted peaks of the Atlas Mountains. Expect roads that are in a good state of repair and mostly traffic free. You’ll find plenty to amuse you, too, if you fancy taking a mountain bike over as there are trails galore throughout the High Atlas range. Inspired? Good. Then start planning your trip now!
