WHAT THEY SAY: The front line defence against temperature drops or cold winds, the Echelon gilet is your Swiss Army knife of cycling.

WHAT WE SAY: Chapeau’s a brand we’re a little bit in love with here at Bikesetc, largely because its products are so good looking but also because the stuff is of such consistently high quality. Made from a four-way stretch polyester and polyurethane blend, this may be a lightweight garment (our medium was just 144g) but it does a stirling job of keeping out the wind and all but the heaviest rain. The fabric clings to your skin for a fitted look without feeling restrictive and when not needed, it can be squeezed right down to fit inside its own zippered security pocket at the rear. There’s also another smaller zippered pocked on the chest. A zip garage, silicone gripper on the waist band, elasticated arm holes, reflective detailing, plus subtle dabs of branding all tell you something about how much attention to detail has gone into this. Available in sizes S-XL.
