Walltown is a mile north-east of Green­head, off the B6318 WHERE TO PARK: Head for the Ro­man army mu­seum and park there DIS­TANCE AND TIME: The walk to the cas­tle is just over a mile, but give your­self be­tween two and three hours de­pend­ing on the time of year, as there is plenty to see here TER­RAIN: This ranges from hard path to grass­land. Best to use stout footwear AC­CES­SI­BIL­ITY: All year round walk FA­CIL­I­TIES: Noth­ing on site, but ev­ery­thing you need in Haltwistle PUB­LIC TRANS­PORT: There are no buses along th­ese roads by the ponds, but trains and buses stop at Haltwistle, which is 4 miles away.
