This is an updated edition of a popular little book brought out in 2004 and previously printed by New Holland. The old version was structured around habitats, always difficult when so many species actually use a variety. This version covers 280 species with an impressive 1,000 drawings by David Daly. It is a quick-fire guide – possible confusion species are given for quick comparisons, and there are key ID features highlighted on the pictures. There’s also a glossary and tick-list to help you. This is a handy little book, for beginners in particular, and one that I am sure will be well used. John Miles
