GREAT WHITE EGRET

Bird Watching (UK) - - 30 Years Of Birdwatching -

Winter sightings of this large heron have increased greatly over the last 30 years – as many as 35-40 birds now spend the colder months over here, and in 2012 a pair even bred at Shapwick Heath in Somerset. Further breeding is surely on the cards, as more and more birds arrive in southern and eastern England from mainland Europe, and they can turn up on any sort of wetland or watery habitat, including ditches and small ponds.
