From 4-7 May, a bird re­ported as a first-sum­mer Slen­der-billed Curlew is seen at Druridge Bay, Northum­ber­land – con­tro­versy over the bird’s iden­tity con­tin­ues for years, un­til the record is fi­nally re­moved from the Bri­tish List in 2013. Mean­while, the Slen­der-billed Curlew is thought to have gone ex­tinct.
