SAND LIZARD

Bird Watching (UK) - - Welcome -

More than any other British reptile, the Sand Lizard demands warmth. Without solar heated banks of sand, a female’s eggs have no chance of hatching into four-legged, cold-blooded creatures. The loss of English heathland to agricultural expansion and housing developments now confine this stunning lizard to a few outposts in Dorset and even fewer beyond. Look for it this month, as the male is glowing green to signal his readiness to mate.
