Name this Cape Town gull?

Please can you let me have your opinion as to the identity of this gull in the attached photo, taken on 25th January in Cape Town, South Africa. William Hoffman, vie email

QWe’re pretty sure this is a Hartlaub’s Gull. Looking closely at the photo, we can make out traces of the faint hood typical of the species, which turns a pale lavender-grey colour during the breeding season. Part of the Silver Gull complex, Hartlaub’s Gull is one of the rarest gull species in the world, but is common enough in Cape Town to be considered a nuisance, like ferel pigeons are here, by human inhabitants.
