Bird Watching (UK) - - Your View -

Following your excellent feature on water rails, I thought you may be interested in my observation. I was at Blashford Lakes, hoping to get a glimpse of the resident Bitterns, when a Water Rail emerged and, after moving from one group of reeds to another, commenced feeding on the remains of a Grey Heron. It fed for about 10 minutes, often putting its head right into the carcass. Is this type of behaviour common in Water Rails? Mark Ison, vie email
