White Stork landfill threat

Bird Watching (UK) - - News Wire -

White Storks are giving up their migratory life owing to a love of junk food, say researchers from the University of East Anglia. A report says thousands of White Storks now reside in Spain and Portugal every year instead of making the trip to Africa, spending their time instead scavenging from landfill sites. It is claimed that the White Stork population has grown by more than 1,000% since 1980, sparking worries that EU directives aimed at closing landfill sites could have a detrimental effect on the species survival.
