Check the wood­land near the car park for Treecreeper, Nuthatch, Great Spot­ted Wood­pecker, Jay, com­mon tits, Black­cap and Chif­fchaff. Stands of conifers at­tract Gold­crest and Coal Tit. Wood­cock and Tawny Owl are ac­tive around dawn and dusk.

1Scan open coun­try to the south for soar­ing raptors such as Buz­zard, Kestrel and Spar­rowhawk. You’ll find that its heath­land tracts sup­port Green Wood­pecker, Mis­tle Thrush, Lin­net, Bullfinch, Yel­lowham­mer, Tree Pipit, Whitethroat, Long-tailed Tit, Wil­low and Gar­den War­blers. Stonechat and Dart­ford War­blers favour patches of gorse.
