RSPB Dove Stone in the Peak District has been awarded the Natura 2000 Conservation Award in recognition of their work in restoring 2,500 hectares of important blanket bog moorland. The project, which has been undertaken by teams of volunteers, involves planting bare peatland with sphagnum moss and other plants, and repairing erosion. When complete, the restored bog will act as a carbon store, a natural water filter, and a habitat perfect for Dunlin, Curlew and Red Grouse.
