hichever way you ac­cess you can ex­pect at least a walk be­fore you reach the vis­i­tor cen­tre and associated hides. That’s not to say you won’t en­counter birds while walk­ing along the river or sur­round­ing farm­land; each step will be bird heavy. My favoured way to ac­cess the re­serve is via Levington Ma­rina. Black­necked Grebes have been seen within the Ma­rina com­plex dur­ing win­ter months and nearby Loom­pit Lake boasts an im­pres­sive list of fresh­wa­ter duck species. It has also hosted Grey Phalarope, Red-rumped Swal­lows and even has a res­i­dent Red-eared Ter­rapin (see insert)! The ad­ja­cent sec­tion of river here
