Large tele­photo lenses are of­ten the choice of pro bird pho­tog­ra­phers, a fo­cal length of 300mm and above is of­ten the pref­er­ence. Zoom lenses can be ex­cel­lent for aid­ing in com­po­si­tion; fixed aper­ture ver­sions are more ex­pen­sive than their vari­able aper­ture coun­ter­parts, but of­fer far su­pe­rior per­for­mance
