Cranes successfully raise chicks

Bird Watching (UK) - - News Wire -

For the second year running, two pairs of Cranes have successfully raised chicks at RSPB Lakenheath Fen. What’s more, these normally secretive birds have done it all in front of rail commuters on the Abellio Greater Anglia route between Ely and Norwich. Three chicks were fledged, one from a second nesting attempt, a first for the reserve. Another three chicks were successfully raised by Cranes in the Nene Marshes reserve, making this a particularly good year for fenland Cranes. Only 25 pairs of Cranes regularly breed in the UK each year, making them one of our rarest breeding birds.
