Re­searchers at the Uni­ver­sity of Lund in Swe­den have found that flock size had a large in­flu­ence on how fast birds fly. They dis­cov­ered that, re­gard­less of species, large flocks trav­elled faster than smaller flocks. Why this should be is a mys­tery, but it may be to do with the in­creased tur­bu­lence gen­er­ated by the num­ber of birds.
