1 From the parking area follow the track along the Catherton Marshes woodland edge and watch for Tree Pipits in spring and summer and a possible Sparrowhawk. All the way round the walk, be sure to check any conifers for Crossbills that are recorded in the general area. Reed Buntings breed. 2 Follow the tracks to the nature reserve, checking the gorse and scrubby areas for Whinchat in summer, Stonechat, Linnet and Yellowhammer. Sky Lark, Swift and hirundines are around. 3 All the while check for Raven, Buzzard and Tawny and Little Owls. At dusk in spring the sound of a roding Woodcock can be heard and Short-eared Owl have been recorded in the winter. Some summers ago Nightjar were here and the hope is they will return.
