WHAT TO GROW

Bird Watching (UK) - - November Id Challenge -

LIZ POTTER Editor, Garden Answers November is when autumn really takes hold in the garden, and when wildlife really starts to need your help in a big way. Leave as many seedheads as you can standing, to provide food for birds and also shelter for insects, and if you have any mature Ivy, then try to leave it uncut – it’s an excellent source of nectar for late insects. In fact, it’s best to adopt a cautious approach to pruning and dead-heading generally – the more seeds, berries and hips that you can leave available for wildlife, the better, as they’re all good food sources.
