Bird Watching (UK) - - Uk Bird Sightings -

HIGH­LIGHTS: An Aquatic War­bler was on Lytch­ett Fields, a Citrine Wag­tail at Radipole Lake and a Cuckoo over Lod­moor (1st). Or­tolan Bunt­ings were at six sites (1st-18th), with three at Coombe­field Quarry. Wry­necks were at nine sites. A White-winged Black Tern was at Mude­ford Quay (6th). A Black Stork flew over Port­land (7th). Tur­tle Doves were at Hengist­bury Head (7th), Coombe Fields (8th), Port­land Bill (10th & 30th) and Bar­l­ey­crates (16th). A Richard’s Pipit was at St. Ald­helm’s Head (8th). A Wood­chat Shrike was at Pi­rate’s Cove (11th). A Red-backed Shrike was at Christchurch Har­bour (18th). Great White Egrets were at sev­eral sites. A Tawny Pipit was at Port­land Bill (14th). A Red-breasted Fly­catcher was at Port­land Ob­ser­va­tory and a Blue-headed Wag­tail at Wyke Regis (15th). A Rose-coloured Star­ling was on Port­land (17th-29th). A Lesser Yel­lowlegs was on Lytch­ett Fields (from 18th), with a Spot­ted Crake there (19th). A Honey Buz­zard flew over Christchurch Har­bour (20th). Yel­low-browed War­blers were at Port­land Bill and Char­mouth (20th), Cul­ver­well (22nd), Arne (28th) and Durl­ston CP (30th). Hengist­bury Head had a Dot­terel (21st), Tree Spar­row (23rd) and Hoopoe (30th). A Melo­di­ous War­bler was on Port­land (25th). A Sabine’s Gull was at Port­land Har­bour (30th). Vis­ual Mi­gra­tion in­cluded 80 Yel­low Wag­tails at Hart­land Moor (1st) and 70 over Hengist­bury Head (2nd). Swal­lows in­cluded 1,000 over Christchurch Har­bour (8th), 1,700 over Hengist­bury Head (12th) and 3,500 over Stan­pit Marsh (14th). There were 60 Wheatears at Port­land Bill (8th). House Martins in­cluded 1,500 at Stan­pit Marsh (14th).

CHRISTCHURCH HAR­BOUR/STAN­PIT MARSH: Gar­ganeys, a Goosander, Marsh Har­ri­ers, a Whim­brel, Bar-tailed God­wits, 82 Knots, San­der­ling, Green­shanks, Arc­tic Skuas, Yel­low-legged Gulls, a Lit­tle Gull, Com­mon Terns, Roseate Tern, Black Tern, a Ring Ouzel and Whin­chats were logged.

THE FLEET/FERRYBRIDGE: Pale and dark-bel­lied Brent Geese, and 250 Ringed Plovers were seen. Ferrybridge logged Bar-tailed God­wits, Knot, San­der­ling, Com­mon Sand­pipers, an Arc­tic Tern and Black Tern.

POOLE HAR­BOUR: Birds recorded were Wi­geon, Teal, Avo­cet, Oys­ter­catch­ers, Spoon­bills, Lap­wings, a Grey Plover, Ringed Plovers, Curlews, Black-tailed God­wits, Bar-tailed God­wits, Turn­stones, Knot, Ruff, Curlew Sand­pipers, San­der­ling, Dun­lin, Lit­tle Stints, Com­mon Sand­pipers, Green Sand­pipers, Spot­ted Red­shanks, Green­shanks, Wood Sand­pipers, Red­shanks, Snipe, Lit­tle Gulls and Firecrests.

PORT­LAND BILL: Birds pass­ing in­cluded Balearic and Sooty Shear­wa­ters, Arc­tic Skuas and a Po­ma­rine Skua. A Short-eared Owl, Mer­lin and Ring Ouzel were noted. Radipole Lake held a Gar­ganey, Ruff and Green Sand­piper. Lod­moor held Marsh Har­ri­ers, Lit­tle Stints and a Lit­tle Gull.

OTHER SITES: Durl­ston CP had a Sooty Shear­wa­ter and Arc­tic Skuas pass­ing. Long­ham Lakes held a Lit­tle Gull. Two Red Kites flew over the Ware­ham Chan­nel (14th).
