HIGHLIGHTS: An Aquatic Warbler was on Lytchett Fields, a Citrine Wagtail at Radipole Lake and a Cuckoo over Lodmoor (1st). Ortolan Buntings were at six sites (1st-18th), with three at Coombefield Quarry. Wrynecks were at nine sites. A White-winged Black Tern was at Mudeford Quay (6th). A Black Stork flew over Portland (7th). Turtle Doves were at Hengistbury Head (7th), Coombe Fields (8th), Portland Bill (10th & 30th) and Barleycrates (16th). A Richard’s Pipit was at St. Aldhelm’s Head (8th). A Woodchat Shrike was at Pirate’s Cove (11th). A Red-backed Shrike was at Christchurch Harbour (18th). Great White Egrets were at several sites. A Tawny Pipit was at Portland Bill (14th). A Red-breasted Flycatcher was at Portland Observatory and a Blue-headed Wagtail at Wyke Regis (15th). A Rose-coloured Starling was on Portland (17th-29th). A Lesser Yellowlegs was on Lytchett Fields (from 18th), with a Spotted Crake there (19th). A Honey Buzzard flew over Christchurch Harbour (20th). Yellow-browed Warblers were at Portland Bill and Charmouth (20th), Culverwell (22nd), Arne (28th) and Durlston CP (30th). Hengistbury Head had a Dotterel (21st), Tree Sparrow (23rd) and Hoopoe (30th). A Melodious Warbler was on Portland (25th). A Sabine’s Gull was at Portland Harbour (30th). Visual Migration included 80 Yellow Wagtails at Hartland Moor (1st) and 70 over Hengistbury Head (2nd). Swallows included 1,000 over Christchurch Harbour (8th), 1,700 over Hengistbury Head (12th) and 3,500 over Stanpit Marsh (14th). There were 60 Wheatears at Portland Bill (8th). House Martins included 1,500 at Stanpit Marsh (14th).
CHRISTCHURCH HARBOUR/STANPIT MARSH: Garganeys, a Goosander, Marsh Harriers, a Whimbrel, Bar-tailed Godwits, 82 Knots, Sanderling, Greenshanks, Arctic Skuas, Yellow-legged Gulls, a Little Gull, Common Terns, Roseate Tern, Black Tern, a Ring Ouzel and Whinchats were logged.
THE FLEET/FERRYBRIDGE: Pale and dark-bellied Brent Geese, and 250 Ringed Plovers were seen. Ferrybridge logged Bar-tailed Godwits, Knot, Sanderling, Common Sandpipers, an Arctic Tern and Black Tern.
POOLE HARBOUR: Birds recorded were Wigeon, Teal, Avocet, Oystercatchers, Spoonbills, Lapwings, a Grey Plover, Ringed Plovers, Curlews, Black-tailed Godwits, Bar-tailed Godwits, Turnstones, Knot, Ruff, Curlew Sandpipers, Sanderling, Dunlin, Little Stints, Common Sandpipers, Green Sandpipers, Spotted Redshanks, Greenshanks, Wood Sandpipers, Redshanks, Snipe, Little Gulls and Firecrests.
PORTLAND BILL: Birds passing included Balearic and Sooty Shearwaters, Arctic Skuas and a Pomarine Skua. A Short-eared Owl, Merlin and Ring Ouzel were noted. Radipole Lake held a Garganey, Ruff and Green Sandpiper. Lodmoor held Marsh Harriers, Little Stints and a Little Gull.
OTHER SITES: Durlston CP had a Sooty Shearwater and Arctic Skuas passing. Longham Lakes held a Little Gull. Two Red Kites flew over the Wareham Channel (14th).
