HIGHLIGHTS: An ‘Azorean’ Yellow-legged Gull was at Stanwick GP (2nd and 9th), with a Shag there (4th). Two Pied Flycatchers were in Northampton at Dallington allotments, with another at Bradlaugh Fields (7th). Black-necked Grebes were at Earls Barton GP (15th-18th) and at Daventry CP (from 28th). The latter hosted a Glossy Ibis (28th), only the fourth county record. Two Great White Egrets were at Pitsford Reservoir, with singles at Hollowell, Ravensthorpe and Stanford reservoirs, Earls Barton and Deene Lake.
BODDINGTON RESERVOIR: A Grey Plover stayed for nearly two weeks. There was a Wood Sandpiper, Redshank, Dunlin, Common Sandpiper, 24 fly-through Bar-tailed Godwits, four Caspian Gulls, two Mediterranean Gulls, two Yellow-legged Gulls and six Black Terns.
CLIFFORD HILL GP: There was an Osprey, Peregrine, Redstart, two Wheatears, three Whinchats, four Dunlin, three Ringed Plovers and a Common Sandpiper.
DAVENTRY: Seven Turnstones flew over. There was a Black-tailed Godwit, Ruff, four Green and three Common Sandpipers, a Curlew Sandpiper, Garganey, Pintail, two Caspian, two Yellow-legged and two Mediterranean Gulls, an Osprey, Peregrine and two Hobbies.
EARLS BARTON: There was a Bittern, Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, two Hobbies, a Garganey, six Black-tailed Godwits, a Grey Plover, three Greenshanks, two Green and three Common Sandpipers, two Ringed Plovers, a Little Ringed Plover, a few Snipe and a Wheatear.
HARRINGTON AIRFIELD: A Merlin, Marsh Harrier, Peregrine and two Redstarts all visited during the month.
HOLLOWELL: There was a Common Scoter, two Garganeys, a Red-crested Pochard, Little Stint, Ruff, five Ringed Plovers, three Dunlin, three Common Sandpipers, a Whinchat, Hobby, Yellow-legged Gull, and a Common Tern.
NASEBY RESERVOIR: A Spotted Redshank, four Green and two Common Sandpipers, a Caspian Gull and Mediterranean Gull were the pick. PITSFORD RESERVOIR: Highlights included Ospreys, a Marsh Harrier, two Hobbies, 18 Pintails, six Red-crested Pochards, two Caspian, one Mediterranean, six Yellow-legged and a Little Gull, two Ruff, eight Ringed Plovers, three Green and two Common Sandpipers, a White Wagtail, Whinchat and Wheatear.
STANWICK: A Sandwich Tern, Turnstone, Hobby, Pintail and four Caspian Gulls were seen.
OTHER SITES: In the Brampton Valley, Marsh Harriers were seen twice. A Peregrine and two Redstarts were near Hanging Houghton. Blueberry Farm logged six Whinchats, three Stonechats, a Redstart, Wheatear and Tree Pipit. Ravensthorpe Reservoir had a Knot and Red-crested Pochard. Ditchford GP hosted 20 Black-tailed Godwits and an Osprey. Five further Ospreys were noted. Whinchats included three at Sywell CP. Four Redstarts were at Fawsley, one at Twywell, with two near Walgrave along with both Whinchat and Wheatear. A Crossbill was in a Wellingborough garden. Two Redstarts were ringed at Stanford where there were two Red-crested Pochards. A Tree Pipit was near Daventry. Three Green Sandpipers were at Deene Lake. Bob Bullock (01604 627 262)
